Art in urban space
Kunsthaus Dresden actively initiates artistic experiences and encounters between people in public spaces in the city, including on Theaterplatz and Neumarkt.
For example, with the transdisciplinary festival Am Fluss / At the River, which began in 2016, on Cultures of Arrival / On Cultures of Arrival. The temporary memorial »Monument« by the German-Syrian artist Manaf Halbouni initiated by Kunsthaus Dresden, which, alongside works by Thomas Kilpper, Svea Duwe and the architects' collective Plastique Fantastique, formed an essential part of the artistic programme of Am Fluss / At the River, triggered a wave of regional and supra-regional interest and emotion from its opening in February 2017. An intensive exploration of forms of remembrance and contemporary art subsequently accompanied the events on site and attracted international media attention.
This was followed in autumn 2017 by a collaboration with the artist Lara Schnitger (Los Angeles) on the artistic procession in Suffragette City.
