Martin Maleschka: Dresden post-war modernism

Installation, historical postcards framed, video projection, postcard stand, 2022

Eisenhüttenstadt-born architect and photographer Martin Maleschka has developed an installation for the robotron canteen that uses historical postcards to document the largely vanished legacy of »Eastern Modernism« from Prager Straße to Neustädter Markt in Dresden.

The installation by Martin Maleschka provides insights into the originally planned urban planning perspectives of post-war modernism in Dresden and shows surprising details of buildings that still exist and those that have already disappeared. A projection shows images of the demolition process that has already taken place on the former robotron site. Maleschka sees himself as an ambassador who wants to promote the cultural value of the artistic and built heritage of the GDR with a deliberately personal and ideology-free approach. The postcards can be taken home by visitors. Donations are welcome.
