Productive unrest

The joint exhibition of the Kunshaus Dresden and the ifa - Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations in the robotron canteen takes a look at the IX and X. Kunstausstellung as the largest and most visited survey exhibition of the GDR as well as the alternative culture of the 1980s as a resonance space for social change.

Based on the historical holdings of the Centre for Art Exhibitions of the GDR (ZfK), whose graphic art collection was transferred to the ifa in 1991, the exhibition opens up a dialogue between the generations with over fifty participating artists and offers insights into the special relationship between art and the public.

"Productive Unrest" in the robotron canteen is the first of six chapters in the ifa exhibition series "Publik Machen", , which is dedicated to the work of the ZfK. The ZfK combined state cultural policy with international exchange and today opens up new perspectives on the relationship between art and the state. "Publik Machen" is taking place at five other exhibition venues in Berlin: ifa-Galerie Berlin, Schloss Biesdorf, KVOST - Kunstverein Ost, Prater Galerie and Galerie im Turm.

A joint exhibition of the Kunsthaus Dresden and the ifa - Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations, in co-operation with the Wüstenrot Foundation. Further partners are Kunstfonds / Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and Art in Networks - a research project of the Chair of Visual Studies and Art History at TU Dresden.
